In The Water 03:16
In the water, in the water I’ll never drown In the fire, in the fire You put me out At the party, at the party You show me ‘round If you tell me, if you tell me I’ll never doubt Won’t you tell me how? Won’t you tell me? (I know you) I know that you You don’t have to (I love you) You don’t have to, no But you help me out In the temple, in the temple I kneel and bow And If only our younger selves could see us now If we’re put here for a purpose That I don’t know about Then I’ll laugh about later Right now I don’t know how No I’m not sure how Won’t you help me? (I know you) I know that you You don’t have to (I love you) You don’t have to, no But you help me out Well I want to rig the table So we never lose And I often go and buy things That I’ll never use But I’m learning not to suffer Or to pity fools And that you got to be wise To know when to break the rules I don’t break the rules But you help me (I know you) I know that you You don’t have to (I love you) You don’t have to, don’t have to, no (I know you) I know that you, I know that you, I know that you You don’t have to, you don’t have to, you don’t have to, you (I love you) But you help me out

Bitter 03:48
It's not that giving in Is easy or hard This is a vacuum we're living in Where you just have to let go 'cause I, I know The bitter taste of falling down Oh, oh I, I know Just what it takes to turn around It's not a measure of sacrifice We all need someone to blame But would it be so unnatural If we could live without pain Why do we have to wait so long? Why do we have to wait so long? I’m quite aware the road is long Well, you don't have to explain 'cause I, I know The bitter taste of falling down Oh, oh I, I know Just what it takes to turn around Tongue tied, misconstrued Even in the lie There’s an element of truth It's been a hard year for you But don't think life don't hurt me, too Please don't say you don't know how Not everything you read is set in stone That's why I much prefer to be alone And in the morning I don’t want to wake 'Cause you give advice you’re not prepared to take And it's such a shame Why do we have to wait so long? Why does it have to take so long? I’m quite aware the road is longs I've even given up When living ain’t enough You help me fill my cup When living ain’t enough You help me fill my cup I, I know Oh, oh I, I know the bitter taste of falling down

Come as simple as the sun And as steady as a breath Let the evening come undone And the thoughtful take a rest And if you don’t, believe me If you don’t, believe me If you don’t, believe me Lord I know it don’t come easy And if you don’t, believe me If you don’t, believe me If you don’t, please believe me Lord I know it don’t come easy Turn away from the crowd And the weight on your chest (How does it tell?) Play a song that’s too loud And reminds you the best (How does it tell?) We’re all inherently alone But I bet you feel it coming home And notice when you’re on your own You’ve always known And if you don’t, believe me If you don’t, believe me If you don’t, believe me Lord I know it don’t come easy And if you don’t, believe me If you don’t, believe me If you don’t, please believe me Lord I know it don’t come easy I suppose you’ve always known We are inherently alone Now the gut is never wrong And the stomach’s never strong And there’s no choice it takes a hold But there are perks to getting old Please do exactly what you’re told Don’t get bold And if you don’t, believe me If you don’t, believe me If you don’t, believe me Lord I know it don’t come easy And if you don’t, believe me If you don’t, believe me If you don’t, please believe me Lord I know it don’t come easy There is no choice it takes a hold So, do exactly what you’re told

I Would 04:26
I was quite the non-believer so I knew you were Never meant to be all mine and no one else’s You’d already sussed it out and so you knew we weren’t Ever in control I just never thought that I could be so helpless But you know I would Honey yeah, you know I would For you, you know I would Young philosophers and poets they will charm your day And warm your nights But they won’t save your life Like you know I would Yeah, you know I would They won’t let you be in ways you know I would All the others went and bought their cars And built their houses But I think we make far better dancers And they pay no mind to their interjections And careless questions Still you always give such thoughtful answers Like you know I would Yeah, you know I would They don’t unusually see the things you know I would And you know I would Well, you know I would I’ll take good with the worst just like you know I would Sticks and stones will break my bones But your words simply destroy me But I’ll have to just rebuild myself Like you know I would Yeah, you know I would Like you know I would Yeah, you know I would They won’t do the things for you I would

No, I’m not proud of myself I hope it makes a difference You’re not convincing when you say That nothing’s wrong I’ve never known a sadder face I want to see a difference I wish that could I guarantee It won’t happen again Is it beginning or an end? Can you tell the difference? Let’s take a midnight drive To the the ocean side No one told me, I wasn’t ready I only mourn the dead, so I… I’m done waiting I’ve waited for more I know I seem impatient Knocking down your door I know you want to talk but We’ve been through this before I’ll always want your love But I don’t need it anymore I’m trying my best You don’t seem to be impressed Are you some kind of drug? Or sent to me from above? I wouldn’t know the difference I’m done waiting I’ve waited for more I know I seem impatient Knocking down your door I know you want to talk but We’ve been through this before I’ll always want your love But I don’t need it anymore

It Goes On 03:32
And I’m finding When we leave it alone That it takes a toll And I’m finding When we leave it alone That it takes a toll What you see ain’t what you get So it’s bad for my health When you describe me just as I see myself Call it an infatuation or just blind faith Don’t ask ‘cause I don’t really care (And I’m finding) Even though I’m uptight (When we leave it) I’ll be dangerous tonight (That it takes a toll) I like to over-analyze (And I’m finding) Let me hold you ‘til daylight (When we leave it) Even though I’m baptized (When we leave it) I’m prepared to never be right (That it takes a toll) If we create a new style (And I’m finding) It will mean we can never be wrong And it goes on Yeah, it goes on And it goes on Yeah, it goes on And I’m finding When we leave it That it takes a toll And I’m finding… Every day you’re by my side I’ll give it right back to you It seems all the others lied I’ll tell the truth to you Every time it drives me wild (And I’m finding) I won’t let it get to you (That it takes a toll) I’m feeling like I’m still a child (And I’m finding) But I see what we’re building is strong And it goes on Yeah, it goes on And it goes on And it goes on It goes on Yeah, it goes on Yeah, it goes on Yeah, it goes on And I’m finding When we leave it alone Yeah, I’m finding That it takes a toll Yeah, I’m finding When we leave it alone Yeah, I’m finding That it takes a toll

Heaven Knows 04:00
Well I’m probably getting far too sentimental You know how I get So I promise I won’t put this on the pile of things that That I will regret Heaven knows I don’t mind ‘Cause the devil knows when you care Heaven knows I don’t mind ‘Cause the devil knows when you care I remember last time we caught up Well it left me a wreck Well you asked if I’ll be there for you when you’re dying I want nothing less I don’t have an idea of where the hell I’ll be So I’ll let this feeling wash over me Now I wonder if you still think it’s odd that I Meditate on death Heaven knows I don’t mind ‘Cause the devil knows when you care Heaven knows I don’t mind ‘Cause the devil knows when you care Heaven knows I don’t mind ‘Cause the devil knows when you care Heaven knows I don’t mind ‘Cause the devil knows when you care

I Was Often 02:40
Wanted to say I never felt more alone Wanted to call you just this once Wanted to tell you I don’t know the things you want I don’t know how to give them any more I guess I was caught out Heaven knows the way I feel Heaven knows the way I feel Needless to say I Looked at all the things I’ve done for you And all the ways I went about it wrong Leave your light on Leave your light on Even when I’ve done something wrong Leave your light on Please leave your light on Even when I’ve done something wrong I’m absolutely miserable without you in my life Heaven knows I wanted to see you

In A Mood 04:04
Don’t feel the need to take it out of context It’s not complicated just a little complex The storm is unaware of houses it wrecks I don’t need to tell you about cause and effect My cool is not a virtue I always keep I have to stop myself from sinking too deep My shirt’s expensive, why do I feel so cheap? What I need now is just a really good sleep I got no reason to pretend That you fell in love with everything I didn’t mean to be so rude Well you caught me in a mood Yeah, you caught me in a mood Well, you caught me in a mood Yeah, you caught me in a mood (It’s you) You know it’s you (I’m telling the truth) I’m constantly loving you (It’s time) It’s time you knew (You know the truth) I’m constantly loving you I got no reason to pretend That you’re in love with everything You love a can-do attitude But you caught me in a mood I know it’s not a good defense But I’ve been feeling pretty tense Still, I didn’t mean to be so rude When you caught me in a mood When you caught me in a mood
10.
I was floating on the surface I was pulled into the depth I was dreaming of a purpose But I still haven’t found it yet No, no, no I’ll probably never see the summits Or the surface of the moon But no one really knows what love is You make me certain that I do Yeah, yeah, oh, oh yeah, oh I don’t deserve it Neither do you I’m feeling nervous I want to figure it out with you I’ve been thinking about you love How it’s all or none I’ve been thinking about your love I can’t get enough of it I’ve been thinking about you love How it’s all or none I’ve been thinking about your love I can’t get enough of it I’ve been thinking about you love How it’s all or none I’ve been thinking about your love I can’t get enough of it I’ve been thinking about you love How it’s all or none I’ve been thinking about your love

Slow Dancer is the moniker of Melbourne-based artist Simon Okely, who performs warm, near-whispered indie-rock love letters to the 60s and 70s rhythm and blues records of his childhood. 'In A Mood' has the charm and soul of a worn and well-played LP that you slip from it’s frayed cardboard cover - perfect for dinner parties and Sunday mornings (or my personal choice, a candle-lit bath with a glass of chardonnay).
Okely's timeless lyrics - poetic reflections on love and human nature - sit within tremolo guitars, crisp drums and hazy Rhodes.
Fans of Nick Drake, Bahamas, Joan Baez and Neil Young will find much to love on 'In A Mood'.
